This notice explains how We Make Footballers Ltd collects, uses and protects personal information through projectfootballer.com, the Project Footballer newsletter and Football Pathway Consultation bookings. It is written to meet UK data protection law (the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) and to give the information required by US state privacy laws. If you have a question, email info@projectfootballer.com.
We collect only what we need: your email address if you join the newsletter, your booking details if you book a consultation, and what you choose to send us. We use analytics cookies only if you accept them. We do not sell your personal information, share it for targeted advertising or use it to make automated decisions about you. This site is for adults - parents, carers, coaches and adult players - and we do not knowingly collect information directly from children. You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time.
Project Footballer is a podcast and website produced by We Make Footballers Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 07752847), Regal House, 70 London Road, Twickenham, TW1 3QS, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this notice. Contact us about privacy at info@projectfootballer.com, or by post at the address above, marked for the attention of the Data Protection Lead.
This notice covers projectfootballer.com only. If you or your child use We Make Footballers coaching sessions, those are covered by the separate privacy policy at wemakefootballers.com.
Newsletter: your email address, your consent to receive our emails, your confirmation that you are 18 or over, and the date and page where you signed up.
Football Pathway Consultations: your name, email address, phone number if you provide it, your booking details and anything you write in the booking form or share before or during the call. Payments are taken by our booking and payment providers - we receive confirmation of payment, never your full card details.
Contact and replies: the details and content of any email, message or newsletter reply you send us.
Analytics (only with your consent): if you click "Accept analytics", Google Analytics records how you use the site, such as pages viewed, approximate location (city or region), device and browser type, and how you arrived. If you reject or ignore the banner, Google Analytics is not loaded.
Technical data: our website host processes standard technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver pages securely and protect the site from abuse.
Email engagement: our emails may record whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we can see what readers find useful and keep our list healthy. You can limit this by turning off image loading in your email app.
We do not collect special category data such as health information about you, and we ask you not to send it. See section 4 for information about your child.
Under UK law we must have a lawful basis for each use of personal information. Ours are:
Sending the newsletter, welcome email and occasional guides - consent. You can withdraw it at any time by clicking unsubscribe or emailing us.
Arranging and delivering consultations, taking payment, sending booking confirmations and reminders - performance of a contract with you.
Replying to enquiries and handling complaints - our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
Website analytics - consent, given through the cookie banner.
Keeping the site secure, preventing abuse and keeping basic records of consent - our legitimate interests in running a safe, accountable service.
Keeping booking and payment records for accounting and tax, and responding to lawful requests - legal obligation.
We will not use your newsletter sign-up to send you marketing about We Make Footballers coaching programmes unless you have separately agreed to that.
Project Footballer is aimed at adults. The newsletter is for people aged 18 and over, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from anyone under 18 (or under 13, for the purposes of the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
Consultations are booked by parents and carers and will often involve discussing a child's football. Please share only what the consultant needs to give useful advice - usually the child's age group, playing level and current club situation. You do not need to give us your child's surname, school or medical information. If you choose to mention a health or injury issue because it is relevant, we will use it only to give advice during that consultation and will not record it beyond any notes the consultant needs to follow up with you.
We never publish information about a child from a consultation, and we never use children's information for marketing.
We use one essential storage item to remember your cookie choice and, only if you accept, Google Analytics cookies. YouTube videos on episode pages load only when you press play. Full details, and how to change your choice, are in our cookie policy at projectfootballer.com/cookies. You can reopen your choices at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Our banner treats a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a refusal of analytics cookies.
We share personal information only where necessary, with:
Service providers who process it on our behalf and under contract: Webflow (website hosting and forms), Make (moving sign-up and form data between our systems), Vero (email), Cal.com (consultation booking), Stripe (payments, through our booking system), and Google (analytics, only with your consent).
Your consultant: if you book a consultation, the consultant you choose receives your booking details and anything you share in the booking form, so they can prepare for and run the call. Some consultants work for other organisations (for example Gen Football or a We Make Footballers franchise) and deliver consultations for Project Footballer under our instructions.
Professional advisers, regulators, law enforcement or courts, where we are required by law or need to protect our rights or the safety of others.
A buyer or successor, if Project Footballer or We Make Footballers is reorganised, merged or sold - in which case this notice will continue to apply to your information.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing, and we do not use it for targeted or cross-context behavioural advertising.
Some of our providers store or process information outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Economic Area, and a consultant may be based outside the UK. Where information leaves the UK we make sure it is protected by UK adequacy regulations (for example for the EEA, or US companies certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework - the UK-US data bridge) or by the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum approved by the UK Information Commissioner. Contact us for more detail.
Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your details. We then keep a minimal suppression record (your email address and unsubscribe date) so we do not contact you again.
Consultation bookings and payment records: six years after the booking, to meet accounting and tax requirements. Consultant notes are deleted after 12 months unless you ask us to keep them for a follow-up.
Enquiries and replies: up to two years after our last contact, unless they form part of a complaint or booking.
Complaints: three years after the complaint is closed.
Analytics: Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months.
We use reputable providers with strong security, limit access to people who need it, protect accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication where available, and review the tools we use. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach happens that puts your information at risk, we will tell you and the relevant regulator where the law requires.
You have the right to: access a copy of your information; have inaccurate information corrected; have your information deleted; restrict or object to how we use it; receive it in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time without affecting what happened before. We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.
To use any of these rights, email info@projectfootballer.com. We may need to confirm your identity first. We will respond within one month, or tell you if we need longer for a complex request. It is free in most cases.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first at info@projectfootballer.com, or by post to the address in section 1. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it without undue delay and tell you the outcome.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).
Depending on where you live, US state privacy laws (including those of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Oregon, Texas, Indiana, Kentucky and Rhode Island) may give you rights over your personal information. We aim to honour these rights for all US visitors, whether or not a particular law applies to us.
Categories we collect: identifiers (name, email address, phone number, IP address); commercial information (consultations booked and paid for); internet or network activity (site usage, only with consent, and email engagement); and any information you choose to share in a booking form or message. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information as defined by California law, and we do not use it to infer characteristics about you.
Sources and purposes: we collect this information directly from you and automatically from your device, for the purposes and with the retention periods set out in sections 3 and 8. We disclose it for business purposes only to the categories of recipients in section 6.
Sale, sharing and targeted advertising: in the past 12 months we have not sold personal information, shared it for cross-context behavioural advertising or used it for targeted advertising, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing the information of anyone under 16. We recognise Global Privacy Control signals.
Your rights: you may ask to know or access the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of any sale, sharing or targeted advertising (which we do not do). We will not discriminate against you for using these rights. You may use an authorised agent, and we may ask for proof of their authority and to verify your identity.
Appeals: if we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision or emailing info@projectfootballer.com with the subject line "Privacy appeal". We will respond within the time required by your state's law. If you are not satisfied, you may contact your state Attorney General.
California "Shine the Light": we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
Our site links to podcast platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube, and to our booking provider. Those services have their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
We will update this notice when our practices or the law change, and show the date of the latest version at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you by email where we can.
